Ko Naomi Toilalo ahau - I am Naomi Toilalo.

Welcome to my kāuta (kitchen), where I share delicious recipes and my kete of te reo Māori (basket of the Māori language). I have been sharing bi-lingual recipes and videos on my Whānaukai Instagram and Facebook page for the past five years. Whānaukai is a casual joining together of two common words in te reo Māori. Whānau means family and kai means food. When whānau and kai come together memories are made and people are blessed. This is what I hope for you all.

Through this website, I present to you an easy way to access my content in one beautiful space. You will find in-depth recipes and videos that will guide you through the process of baking the things I love. On top of that, I will teach you little snippets of te reo Māori because I yearn for the preservation of our beautiful language here in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Nau mai, whakatau mai nei ki tōku kāuta - welcome to my kitchen. I am so glad you are here!

Kia ora e te whānau - a little throw back to a fun Kia ora e te whānau - a little throw back to a fun recipe. Penu amiami (pesto) needs no recipe really, just add whatever you have (especially herbs that are starting to turn) and enjoy the full bodied flavour that it brings!

For me, toasted sourdough with a pop of flavoured kirīmi tīhi (cream cheese), homemade penu amiami (pesto) and fresh tōmato (tomatoes), seasoned with tote (salt) and pepper (pepa) is the ultimate comfort food. What's yours? ❤️❤️

Here is Te Aka's definition:
how sad, how disappointing, what a pity - an idiom used to express sympathy, disappointment or regret. It can also be used in a sarcastic way or to emphasise an idea.
Kia hiwa rā, kia hiwa rā - attention, attention! Kia hiwa rā, kia hiwa rā - attention, attention!

@thesaarahproject and I are so excited to announce we are making Cookbook Number 2. 🤩

It has been four years since we shot the first one and we have both learnt so much. We are just in the beginning stages but thought we should bring you along for the ride as we begin to document the journey. It is such a privilege to showcase this kai and share our stories with you all.

I also want to take this moment to thank our publishers at @batemanbooks ❤️ Ka nui te mihi maioha ki a koutou katoa i tō koutou whakapono mai. I am so grateful that you could see the potential in this new book. 📖

To all of my followers both new and old, thank you for all of your tautoko (support). This book is for you all and I hope you love it. More details about all that it entails closer to release date.

I have no idea yet when it will be published but Sarah and I thought it would be fun for you all to see that mahi we do behind the scenes. Two shoots down and around 5 to go...now to get back to writing ✍️😅

Woo hoo - three days at a school camp takes it out Woo hoo - three days at a school camp takes it out of a person 😅 but what awesome tamariki (children). I loved my time being a parent helper and watching our kids step out of their comfort zones. The saying of the week is dedicated to them! Ka wani kē!

Here is Te Aka's definition:
You're clever, a master, a genius, neat alright - an idiom to praise someone's knowledge or expertise.
How did we do the Great Kiwi Bake Off 7 years ago? How did we do the Great Kiwi Bake Off 7 years ago? This show was so traumatic and fabulous all at the same time. My tamariki (children) were still little but Pauly encouraged me to go for it and I am so glad he did. Through all the wins and epic fails 😆, it showed me I wanted to have a career in food.

Sitting here today I am so grateful to be able to do this mahi, to take each experience as learning and to continue to grow and develop.

E te whānau (family), thank you for your amazing tautoko (support) along this journey, it is such a wild ride!
